First Night in Tokyo

It was my first night in Japan, I did not know what to expect.  After having a long flight and taking a wrong turn adding about a mile to my walk to the hotel, I took a much needed rest before exploring the neighborhood. It was very early in the morning, yet I still was initially surprised at the lack of people out. Almost all videos and pictures of Tokyo seem like they  want to show crowds and lights, which can be found, just not on this first walk. Something that was very common were vending machines, they were seemingly everywhere. This particular vending machine was particularly striking due to it’s placement. There was no storefronts or building entrances apart from what appears to be a garage. It appeared to be functional, with the trash can next to it needing to be changed, it did seem it was in use as well.

It was one of the first surprising culture shocks of the trip, and the irony was not lost that I was more out of place, because why am I out at 4am?

Till next time.
